Know about Your Artisan :
Bibhuti Behra :I am Bibhuti Bera, a 29-year-old Pattachitra artist hailing from Raghurajpur, India’s first heritage village.I belong to a lineage of traditional artists and learnt this ancient art form, which dates back to the 5th century BC, from my father, a nationally acclaimed Pattachitra master . My themes include the Dasavataras, Krishna Leela, Ramayana episodes, and Ardhanariswara, depicted with intricate motifs and vibrant colors.
Crafted on pure silk, the saree combines the elegance and sheen of silk with the earthy vibrance of folk art. The texture of silk provides a smooth canvas that enhances the sharpness and color depth of the Pattachitra work. Often, the pallu (decorative end of the saree) becomes the main focal point, featuring elaborate, storytelling scenes framed by ornamental borders that run along the edges.
These sarees are more than garments; they are heirlooms that reflect centuries-old traditions and the skilled labor of artisans who rely on their craft for livelihood.
